Your State

Thanks to your actions last November 7th, the mid-term elections of 2006 marked the dismissal of many radical conservative decision makers and the resurgence of progressive momentum characterized by strength, passion, and energy. Legislatively, the reproductive justice movement gained some ground.

Victories over what would have been a devastating abortion ban in South Dakota and the defeat of anti-choice parental notification ballot initiatives in California and Oregon are evidence that our movement’s energetic and mobilized youth base can redirect our country. We also can celebrate the victories of new progressive leaders who were elected to state legislatures.

At the same time, disparities continue to exist throughout the country -- more severe in some states than in others. These disparities vary from access to healthcare and reproductive services to anti-choice legislation that closes women's health centers which are essential to providing comprehensive services to communities. These disparities highlight the work that still needs to be done.
