The Hyde Amendment, law since 1976, has forced women to carry unwanted pregnancies to term by excluding abortions from covered Medicaid services.
Tell your representatives to stop under-funding services for lower-income women! The Hyde Amendment has forced women to carry unwanted pregnancies to term by excluding abortions from covered Medicaid services.
Since the Hyde Amendment, between 18-35% of Medicaid-eligible women who would have had an abortion if public funding had been available instead carried their unplanned pregnancy to term.
In addition to affecting low-income women, the Hyde Amendment punishes soldiers and public servants for serving their country. Federal employees, military personal and their families, Peace Corp volunteers, and Native Americans are also denied funding for abortions.
Henry Hyde retired from his position in Congress last year. We think that his amendment should have left with him! Over 30 years of restrictions is enough!
The Campaign to Repeal Hyde has provided a letter that you can send directly to your representative.
