The 2006 approval of emergency contraception (Plan B®) for nonprescription status was a huge victory for women 18 years and older. But we can't stop there!
Every woman deserves access to quality and equitable health care - including access to necessary drugs without embarrassment or intimidation. Young women under 18 still face major barriers to accessing accurate information about emergency contraception (EC) and encounter limitations and restrictions to receiving EC when it's most needed.
Advocates for Youth and Choice USA are asking you to help gather signatures from your peers on a petition to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Here's why: The Center for Reproductive Rights -- a nonprofit, legal advocacy organization that promotes and defends the reproductive rights of women worldwide, currently has a lawsuit to force the FDA to reverse its decision that restricts young women's access to Plan B without a prescription. There's evidence confirmed by FDA officials that key decisions were based on politics, not science, and the New York federal Court found a "strong showing of bad faith" on the part of the FDA.
