GenderYouth Network

In January of 2009, Choice USA added the GenderYouth Network, formerly a project of GenderPAC/TRUE, to our family of young activists. The decision to include the Network in our membership base was an intuitive one made with the input of staff and activists of both organizations. Choice USA is dedicated to building youth leadership and growing the base of young people advocating for reproductive justice. In working with this base to organize against policies and institutions aimed at regulating our bodies, sexuality and reproduction, we believe our work must continue to incorporate the experiences and voices of a broad and diverse youth constituency including those who identify as queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual transgender, gender-nonconforming and intersex.

From working to eradicate gender based violence to advocating for real sex education, these young leaders have been catalysts for change on campuses and in their communities. While our numbers will grow with the addition of GenderYouth activists our goals remains the same: increasing youth access to information, and health care and creating an environment that is conducive to negotiating healthy sex and sexuality.

We will continue to:

  • articulate the barriers young people face when seeking access to health information and services as they navigate sex and sexuality
  • diversify the representation of leaders informing the state and national reproductive health rights and justice agendas
  • build relationships and camaraderie across issues and identities to ensure greater victories and to connect the fight for sexual and reproductive rights to a broader social justice agenda
  • recruit and activate a base of young leaders who can advocate for themselves and their communities on a local and federal level

In June 2009 current Choice USA members came together with GenderYouth Network activists at our Annual National Membership Conference to begin collaborating at the grassroots level to advocate for increased youth access to sexual and reproductive health information, resources and services. In coordination with Gender Youth Network, students at this year’s Conference elected to make Comprehensive Sex Education this year's national campaign. If you were a part of GenderPAC’s GenderYouth Network and would like to continue to ensure a youth vision for sexual and reproductive freedom, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We are really excited here at Choice USA to grow our network and build a stronger base for youth centered policy change!
