Where We're Going

Choice USA's vision for the future of the reproductive justice movement is one that has room for new leaders and embraces trailblazers.

Movements for social change wither unless they develop new leaders. Choice USA’s commitment to leadership development is a defining feature of our programs and an essential tool to promote young people’s participation and investment in the pro-choice movement.

Our vision for the movement is that of a diverse group of strategic women and men working together in the fight for reproductive justice to initiate policy changes at the school, community, local, state, and federal levels.  It is a movement that can reconcile lessons learned and out of the box innovations and use them to develop effective and proactive strategies yielding us reproductive rights victories across the nation. Our work focuses on developing new models of organizational collaboration that center on multi-ethnic and multicultural youth organizing as well as challenging our young constituents and our mentors to see each other as peers and necessary allies in the fight to obtain and defend reproductive freedom for all women.

Young women, people of color and low-income women represent the majority in this nation, and have long called for a movement that bridges health, rights and social justice and is, thereby, comprehensive enough to include the pressing issues their communities face. Choice USA pursues a broadened framework centered on youth and people of color – this approach is at the core of the emerging reproductive justice youth movement. Through these linkages and collaborative action, Choice USA feels that all communities will have the economic, political and social resources for healthy, self-determined sexual and reproductive paths.

To encourage young activists to mobilize around policy changes that increase access to reproductive health services, Choice USA works with our activists to develop and implement campaigns on specific reproductive health issues and to implement them. In addition to having national office generated campaigns that have national and local components, we pride ourselves on our ability to advance activist driven campaigns around issues indirectly related to national campaign priorities, in an effort to meet community members where they are on the issue. While we continue our local and state-specific work on comprehensive sexuality education, parental notification, crisis pregnancy centers and abortion bans, our current national issue-campaign focus is affordable birth control.

It is important to us that we are the change that we want to see in the movement. So we are very purposeful in building a team of staff, board members, chapter leaders , and coalition partners that are reflective of and accountable to our diverse youth constituency.
